Board Member Expectations and Responsibilities

Thank you for your interest in becoming a board member for an especially important program that is helping people begin a new and better life. Your commitment will allow us to reach our mission to provide mentorship and resources for adults who are involved in the Hancock County criminal justice system, helping them to achieve crime-free, drug-free, productive lives.

The following are a list of general expectations for our board members.

  • Be informed about the mission of the organization, its services, policies, and programs.

  • Attend 12 board meetings per year. Should you be unable to attend a meeting, you will, if needed, ask to be available for telephone or video conference consultation. Meetings are currently held on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 8-9:30 a.m.

  • Serve on at least one board committee.

    • Finance/Fundraising/Marketing Committee

    • Mentor Recruitment/Faith-Based Liaison Committee

    • Governance Committee

  • An annual personal financial contribution to the organization. This may be given as a one-time donation each year or in mutually agreed to installments during the year.

  • Actively participate in one or more fundraising activities. This may include individual and/or special event solicitation or direct mail appeals. This may also include any additional board initiated fundraising activities such as peer-to-peer fundraising through social media.

  • ​Providing or procuring in-kind services to benefit the organization (optional)

  • Promote the organization regularly with business associates, friends, family, etc. through referrals and donor prospects.

  • Suggest potential board member nominees to the Executive Committee who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization.

  • ​Serve a minimum of one (1) term of three (3) years.
